With new seasons, come new trends. What better excuse could you have to try out something different than by getting on board with this fall’s newest hair color trends.

Come fall, the bright, sunkissed strands and fun quirky colors that dominated your social feeds during summer will slowly fade out and be replaced by softer, warmer shades.

I’m sure many will be relieved to hear that a more natural, low-maintenance look is predicted to enter the scene in the weeks ahead. But let’s touch on a few of the looks that are going to change things up this fall and have you strolling into the new season on trend and feeling great.

Before we highlight what to look out for this fall, let’s take a look at the change in seasons.

The change of seasons

It's that time of year again when the leaves start to change color and we all start thinking about what our fall hair color should be. This year, there are some really beautiful, soft shades that are perfect for transitioning into the cooler weather.

One of the things we love about fall hair colors is that they tend to be a bit more subdued than the fun, vibrant shades of summer. This year, there are some beautiful, rich brunettes that would be perfect for an autumnal look. If you're looking for something a little lighter, soft caramel highlights would be stunning against darker hair.

If you're feeling adventurous, why not try a new color altogether? We're loving shades of rose gold and copper right now. They've been popular all summer, and they'll definitely give your hair a warm glow as the weather gets cooler.

So if you're looking for a new hair color this fall, consider one of the softer, warmer shades. If you haven’t seen them appearing all over town, you sure will in the coming weeks. Why not get ahead of the trend this fall?

Let’s take a look at what you can expect.

Best Fall Hair Color Shades

1. Golden Blonde

If you are still favoring the sunkissed streaks and aren’t ready just yet to make a big leap into the new season, start off slow with a gradual change. With the simple addition of warmer, richer tones the transition into golden blonde will be an easy and welcome one.

Golden tones will also be seen to verge on subtle copper even strawberry tints. This softer take on blonde will also have hair taking on a healthier appearance.

2. Warm Auburn

Enter the cooler months ahead with a more discreet toned-down yet catching look. This can be achieved with a warmer mahogany shade. Autumn will be featuring a color palette very similar to that of the falling leaves it brings. It is here that the copper browns will take play as well.

We’re expecting this to be a popular option this fall.

3. Dark Ombré

The Ombré trend is not going anywhere this fall. However, the color scheme is simply taking on a darker tone with a more subtle blend. Keep the touch-ups to a minimum with a gentle fade between root and tips.

This is a popular look that you’ll definitely start to see more of come this fall. Why not try it for yourself?

4. Chestnut

If you are looking for even less maintenance when it comes to your hair this coming fall, then this could be the color for you. This all-over rich but not overstated brown will be a very popular color springing up in the weeks ahead.

5. Pumpkin Spice

Could there be a more apt hair color at this time of year? We think not! Blend right in with this striking yet warm color. Play around with the tone ever so slightly, adjusting the shade just to your liking.

6. Dark Brunette

If you don’t want to fade into the background this fall, then this bold color will be your way to avoid exactly that. Looking to be the more popular choice for the season ahead, this deep, almost raven take on brunette will get you noticed. Deemed more elegant than a harsh look, it will have you exuding with confidence.

7. Vibrant Copper

Reds and coppers are said to be getting even bolder this upcoming season, so why not try a version of it this fall by sporting a vibrant copper look? Bolder seems to be better with what the trends are depicting.

8. Ash Brown

This is a more interesting color finding its way into the trend predictions. Work with your natural hair color to achieve this look if you fall within the brunette category. Not as simple to achieve as some of the previous looks mentioned, this one is to be carefully discussed with your hairdresser of choice.

9. Platinum Blonde

If you just can’t let go of your summer blonde look then you are in luck. Carrying through into the next season the icy platinum blonde trend is said to be standing strong. A striking look when combined with the autumn fashion tones that are ever-present with this season.

10. Burgundy

A sure-headed turned, this rich vine shade always seems to find its way into the fall season. This could be your year to sport this vibrant look if you haven’t done so yet.

11. Wheat Blonde

A different take on the warm and platinum options, that’s for certain. Reflecting neither the warm nor ashy tones making it closer to a natural blonde color than most others. This could be a winning formula for all the blondes out there looking to save on highlights this season and embracing their natural shade for once.

12. Warm Brown Balayage

Brunettes hoping to go lighter but nervous about such a big change and potential added maintenance will see the ever trendy brown balayage being the solution to their worries. Balayage is deemed more a technique undertaken by colorists to achieve a low-maintenance way for darker hair types to go lighter with the use of a softer blending process. This will see you keeping your natural base color and enables a gentler grow out as a result of the subtle blending of your natural roots.

13. Dark Brown with Caramel Highlights

Even with the ever-increasing popularity of the subtle blending and ombre effects, the timeless highlight is yet to be completely forgotten. The dark rich colors of autumn will play a strong role, however with the addition of warm, caramel highlights. A complementing hue to all skin tones, why not give this look a go for the fall season ahead.

Tips for coloring your hair at home this fall

When it comes to coloring your hair at home this fall, there are a few handy tips that you can consider. Here are just a few of them.

Don't mix shades for a "custom color."

Choose a shade that's one or two shades lighter or darker than your current color

If you're not sure which shade to choose, it's always best to err on the side of caution and go for something that's slightly lighter or darker than your current hair color. That way, you can avoid any major disasters!

Pay attention to the undertones

When choosing a hair color, it's important to pay attention to the undertones. If you have cool undertones, opt for colors with ash tones. If you have warm undertones, go for colors with gold or copper tones.

Do a patch test

Before you color your hair, it's always best to do a patch test first. This will help you to see how your hair reacts to the color and whether you're allergic to any of the ingredients.

Follow the instructions carefully

Be sure to read the instructions on the hair color box carefully before you start. This will help ensure that you get the best results possible.

Have fun!

Coloring your hair at home can be a fun and rewarding experience. So, go ahead and experiment with different shades to find the perfect one for you!
